Sites are nice pull throughs; most are full hookup sites as well. It is wide open with only a few small trees, but the trees have grown noticeably since my visit in 2003. A model airplane field nearby can be a source of annoying noise; it is the only negative. Windstorms can be very strong. Access to the vast network of metro Denver bike trails is excellent. There is great birding - especially for great blue herons. Get up early on weekends and watch the hot air balloons ascend. Free WiFi is available while their new network is in its trial phase. They may be charging for it in the future. Cost varies from $8 for a tent only site to $22 for full hookups.

This is a large public campground used mainly by people canoeing the Ozark Riverways. Most sites have grass and shade trees although trees are small and widely spaced in the electrical loop. Hot showers are free, but restrooms are desperately in need of maintenance. There is little privacy. Some sites are large and spacious; others are packed close. Many tent sites have a spur long enough for a large RV. Electric hookup sites are wide enough to park a tow vehicle next to the trailer. Locals use this campground heavily on weekends making for lots of noise. It is common for both doors of a parked pickup to be wide open with the radio turned up to full volume for hours at a time. Reservations are rarely necessary except for major weekends and the peak season from mid-June to the end of July. Be aware that there is no explicit reservation fee, but you pay an extra $3 per night if you do make reservations.

The web site and guidebooks all say "NO reservations". This is not exactly true. What the locals do is call the host and get on his list. This guarantees them a site for the time they want, just not a particular site. For a holiday weekend, the locals will arrive on Monday or Tuesday and pay for the site through the weekend even though they don't occupy the site until Friday. Call ahead to ascertain availability if you want to stay here. This is a pleasant campground with lots of grass and shade trees. Sites are packed pretty closely together and afford little privacy. Quiet hours are respected although families with kids on weekends means smoky campfires and lots of noise during the day. Numerous pull-throughs accommodate big rigs even though the roads are narrow. Sites are gravel with full hookups. Restrooms are clean but need maintenance.

Overall this is a decent, albeit somewhat over-priced campground. You pay a premium for the proximity to Denver. Roads are narrow and sites are a bit cramped. Concrete pads are not level and are too narrow. If noise bothers you, then beware. The biker bar across the street is unbelievably loud. Traffic noise simmered down at night but was significant during the day. Sites on the east side of the park are more quiet, being further from the bar, but they also are closer to I-70. Restrooms are the best I have ever seen. WiFi is fine but very expensive. The park was clean and their mountain was small but fun to climb. Staff is friendly and helpful.
